As a girl, I can safely say that I am not tailor made to play poker on a high level, or at least I thought I wasn’t. That is all changing since my new buddy Michael moved into our shared flat. We now live with 2 girls and 3 boys, all very excited about poker but really shit in the actual game, as we realized last weekend.
When Michael came in, he saw our little 10$ poker set in the corner and quite quickly a smile met his face; he told us he is moderately good in poker, and wanted to try our strength. Well, being good neighborly roommates we agreed, we could have one extra game of poker this month, couldn’t we? So after cooking, eating, drinking wine and playing a whole lot of cards, we were so exhausted and more specifically, completely broke. This guy, who falsely called himself ‘moderately’ good in poker, beat the shit out of us, he netted over 130$ profit in a friendly homegame, talk about f*cked!
But here comes the good part, he agreed to give us lessons that would help us become equally ‘moderate’ players, in exchange for sexual favors. Ok, I’m kidding, in exchange for a good meal every evening. We hesitantly agreed, because that a shitload of food! But what the heck, we like this guy, and we like poker, good deal!
Celebrity 2010 World Poker Tour!
Kevin Mckidd & The Chrysalis Foundation
As for us, poker has also crept into the celebrity crowd! Kevin Mckidd who is especially well known for his appearance on grey’s anatomy is sad that he lived in LA for 3 years and didn’t know about the casino in his city. He play’s together with a lot of other celebrity’s that play for a good cause. To be more exact, the profits go to the Chrysalis Foundation, which is a non-profit organization that cares for the well-being of homeless and lower lower middle class citizens. They try to make them self-sufficient! How nice is that? It’s like teaching someone how to fish, on a big scale. I’m quite cool with such an initiative!
Anyway, Teri Hatcher that we all know from her star performance on Desperate Housewives was also sitting on a table, claiming she really loves poker strategy, the social interaction and the “betting”.
Jerry Ferrara & Shannon Elizabeth
Jerry Ferrara (Entourage) likes to act like he is good at the poker table, while knowing he will lose in the end, talk about honesty! Shannon Elizabeth (American Pie 1, 2) tells us women can really make all the same good moves as a guy, but they need to be aware of the fact people will react differently to those moves coming from a women. And Jennifer Tilly reminds us that she is still on the market if anybody wants to cast her! That’s one easy commercial for her right there and she tops it off by revealing that celebrity’s, like us, like free food and liquor. O’rly?
To conclude Alsonso Ribeiro tells us he didn’t lose a lot of money on poker in his life, only about $20,000. Well, if I had lost that much on poker, I would be living in a cardboard box right now, or worse!
Oh well, not everyone can be famous right? We have to work our way to the top!
Kisses and cya soon!!
Anthony vs. Michael
Very Loose Poker Play
This is a crazy hand, as K9o and 85o go into a sick flop, an totally crazy turn and a money sink river. I don’t even know these celebrities! Should I?
Anthony calls a raise with 85o on the small blind, out of position, I don’t really know what the thinking here is, but it is certainly not much! A friend of mine once told me I should only play Jacks or better against a raise oop, well, I think that’s a little harsh but this is really over the top! If you do not fold this kind of hand, what kind of hand do you fold? He must be playing with like 90% of his hands or more!? Such loose play!
Disguising Hand Strength By Showing Strength
The flop comes 55k, and Anthony immediately bets his hand, which kind of disguises his strength, as you would expect a cold call of a check raise when your opponent has a 5 on this kind of board. Michael immediately raises, and Anthony just calls, which probably scares Michael but on the other hand Michael could easily think that Anthony is scared of the 5 himself and has something like JJ, QQ, AA or AK, KQ which could be bluffed away.
On the river another 5 appears, and Michael’s fear for an AK, KQ and even a 5 are severely weakened. This 5 actually makes Michael’s hand stronger, unless of course you are against the last 5!! Anthony checks, and even I believed him. But his acting after Michael’s way too strong pot bet is a little overdone! Michael probably suspects there is a problem, but has no other options since he only has about $2.000 left for a $14.000 pot. On the river, which is a painful K, Anthony checks once again, and Michael is falsely encouraged to go all in with his remaining small stack. Michael slowrolls Anthony, which is such a no-no! I mean, you just do not slowroll, ever, what a douche! I thought he was cute, but after that little act, bah.
Kudos to Michael for taking it so well, since he should really have slapped some chairs around just as Phil Hellmuth would!
Love the other players at the table, they just can’t shut up, just like me!!
Greets and cya next time!
